Produced by Global Thinkers and presented by Elizabeth Filippouli, NewsXchange debated the Independence in Journalism vs. Interdependence. The debate examined the impact of social media and technology upon traditional forms of storytelling. Undoubtedly, platforms like Twitter are the medium of the moment. And their impact is massive. Clearly they can be exploited, misinterpreted or manipulated. However, ever since reporters started using Twitter, an old guard of newspaper hands has complained that the micro-blogging site is undermining the pure essence of journalism.140 characters at a time can be quite dangerous.
In a 450-strong audience, GTF achieved to create a mind stimulating debate for: ‘Independent Journalism vs. Interdependent News’, with the audience deciding in favour of Independency in storytelling and awarding the ‘trophy’ to Stephen Cole. Senior Presenter Al Jazeera English.
The Debate was a main point of discussion for 450 journalists and media executives from 50 countries and global media organizations such as: EBU, CNN, Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, BBC, Euronews, Russia Today, CCTV, NHK etc.
